Nurses’ baby formula cases adjourned

The nurses appeared before a court in Lefkoşa on Monday over the October 2024 incident at the Emergency Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit. Defence lawyers told the court that their clients would deny the charges.

In the first case, all five nurses, identified by their initials as Ç.S., K.Y., G.K.A., A.D. and M.A., face a charge of negligence.

In a separate case, A.D. and M.A. face a charge of conduct seriously contrary to professional ethics and the dignity and honour of their profession. Both cases were adjourned until December 3, 2026.

The incident occurred on October 26, 2024, when seven babies were fed formula containing ethyl alcohol. Twenty-day-old Mihrimah Toymuradov died, while six other babies required intensive care treatment.

Five nurses were arrested during the subsequent investigation and later released pending trial.
