Ministry cancels applications involving 135 foreign nationals
In a written statement, the ministry rejected suggestions that the Labour Department’s computer system had been hacked or accessed through unauthorised external interference.
The statement followed reports that the details of 135 foreign nationals had been entered into the department’s system in a case under criminal investigation.
The ministry said the applications were submitted using existing usernames and passwords belonging to the users concerned.
Labour Department staff identified the irregularities during detailed checks, and all the applications were cancelled.
“No foreign national has entered the country under the applications in question,” the ministry said.
It added that the department would continue monitoring applications, identifying irregularities and taking the necessary administrative action to protect the public interest.
