KING Charles has expressed hope for a settlement of the Cyprus issue in the near future, according to Greek Cypriot media reports quoting a guest at a Commonwealth reception in London.

King Charles hopes for Cyprus settlement

The King reportedly discussed the island’s continuing division with Christina Dymioti, founder of Fashion Heritage Network Cyprus, during the reception he hosted at St James’s Palace.

High commissioners from Commonwealth countries and representatives of various organisations attended the event.

According to Dymioti’s account, the King expressed sadness that Cyprus remained divided and said he hoped the issue would be resolved soon.

He also showed a keen interest in projects bringing Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot young people together, asking how bicommunal initiatives were progressing.

Dymioti said she told the King that Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides had appointed her to the bicommunal Technical Committee on Youth, which works directly with the United Nations.

She said the King congratulated her on the work and encouraged her team to continue its activities.

The reported conversation contained no indication of the King expressing a preference for a particular political model for a Cyprus settlement.
