Başçeri holds surprise meeting with UN Cyprus envoy
TÜRKİYE’S Ambassador to Lefkoşa, Ali Murat Başçeri, has met the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, at the Turkish Embassy.
The meeting was disclosed in a brief social media post by the Embassy. No details of the discussions were released.
The unexpected contact comes ahead of Holguín’s planned joint meeting with President Tufan Erhürman and Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides on November 9.
The meeting could offer an opportunity to clarify Ankara’s position as the UN seeks progress, although the Embassy’s announcement gave no indication of any new initiative or change in policy.
