A MONTH ago, it was said the coronavirus does not affect children. But now new research indicates the initial findings may not be entirely true.

CHILDREN UNAFFECTED BY CORONAVIRUS: IS IT MYTH OR REALITY?

    Coronavirus does not spare the elderly and does not harm children, a group of researchers from the Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had claimed. Their research was published in the New England Journal of Medicine which drew the attention of doctors from several countries. Researchers had suggested children were less likely to get infected or suffer lesser symptoms in the event of illness. While more than 209,000 people were affected by the coronavirus all over the world, until mid-January, no cases were reported among people aged below 15. Until recently, only a few cases of the coronavirus infection have been reported in children, and not all of them show symptoms. “For reasons we don’t understand, the virus primarily affects adults,” infectious disease specialist Richard Martinello said.
